He was the second youngest winner of Germany's highest decoration for valor, the ''Pour le Mérite'' or "Blue Max". ==Early life== Kurt Wüsthoff was born in Aachen, the westernmost city in Germany,〔https://www.tvk.rwth-aachen.de/ 〕 on 27 January 1897. His father was a music director. In 1913, the family moved to Dresden, where Kurt studied art in high school. He joined the German air service at age 16½,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Wusthoff ) 〕 in mid 1913.
